Species Info
Monomorium ergatogyna is a very small species of shiny, black ant. Their colonies can get very large and have many queens, which live very long and can inbreed. Their queens do not have wings. Setups should be very secure, since these ants are small and skilled climbers.
These ants have a very wide diet. They'll eat just about anything, from fruit flies and mealworms to sugar water and honeywater. It is recommended that you feed them a lot to make them grow faster.
These colonies need heat of some kind. Around 81-87 would be ideal for this species.
A diapause period is not necessary for these ants, but it could induce the production of more queens. If you do decide to diapause them, do not put them in the fridge. It's best to keep them below room temperature and feed them less, but still enough to survive on.
Brood development takes 4-5 weeks for workers. Colonies can grow into the thousands in months, but this depends on heating, feeding habits, and queen number.
Queen size: 3.5-4mm
Worker size: 1-2mm
