Species Info
General: Crematogaster pinicola is a small/medium sized acrobat ant with a insanely quick growth speed and a wide appetite. These ants have heart shaped gasters, which many love! Their queens are notably bicolored, having a ruby-colored front half and a darker gaster.
Diet: These ants love and need sugar, so much so that they cannot last long without it. They also need protein. They will eat a variety of dead insects, such as mealworms, crickets, fruit flies, roaches, and more.
Temperature: These ants need heating to grow and thrive. Keep the nest between 88-95 in some areas, but provide a gradient with a cooler area.
Diapause: This species should not require diapause at all. If your colony for some reason slows down in the winter, simply bring them to room temperature for 3-4 weeks. NOTE: Current queens are from Florida and will not require diapause. If you wish to diapause them, do so at no less than 65 degrees for a few weeks. Keep them fed.
Growth: Brood development takes 4-7 weeks depending on feeding, heating, and colony stage. These ants have been noted to achieve 5,000 workers in half a year with intensive heating and feeding, so they can definitely reach 10,000+ within 1-2 years.
